DAY 01: GARDA LAKE
Arrival to Garda lake. Accommodation in hotel. Overnight stay.
DAY 02: GARDA LAKE-SOUTH TO NORTH
Start the day on Sirmione, the southern highlight of the lake. Starting from the 1st century BC, the area of the Garda, including what is now Sirmione, became a favourite resort for rich families coming from Verona. The poet Catullus praised the beauties of the city and spoke of a villa he had in the area. The main historical landmark is his grottoe, the most striking example of a Roman private edifice discovered in northern Italy, and Scaliger castle, rare example of medieval port fortification. We’ll take the boat to Riva del Garda, the northernmost town on the lake. After a short walk you get to the colourful old city, which is dominated by Venetian and Habsburg architecture. Admire a 100m high Varone waterfall in a narrow canyon. This impressive natural spectacle forms a beautiful end of the day, before heading back to your hotel. Overnight stay.
DAY 03: GARDA LAKE–VENICE–LAKE GARDA
In the morning we'll drive to beautiful Venice. Stroll the narrow lanes, cross over bridges and observe gondoliers as your guide gives a detailed and intriguing account of the history of the city. Learn about Casanova’s and Marco Polo’s role in the history of Venice. Discover the secrets of the city and see its most famous and significant buildings. Stand in front of St. Mark’s cathedral and hide from the pigeons in the Square, pass by the Bridge of Sighs, connecting the prisons in the Doge’s Palace. Admire the paintings of the great Venetian masters, such as Titian and Tintoretto. Drive back to Garda Lake and your hotel. Overnight stay.
DAY 04: GARDA LAKE- VALEGGIO DI MINCIO-VERONA-GARDA LAKE
We’ll stop at the vibrant countryside town of Valeggio di Mincio, which is famous for the daily preparation of tortellini: fresh eggs are mixed with flour, beef stew boils to become, together with herbs and cheese, part of the traditional pasta, made according to the old legend, and named as love-knot, which you’ll have the opportunity to taste and buy. In the afternoon we will visit Verona, the city of Romeo and Juliet. We’ll stop at Piazza Bra where the world famous Roman Amphitheater, the 3rd largest in Italy, is located. It dates back to the 1st-Century AD and boasts more than 22,000 seats, making it a perfect venue for outdoor operas and concerts. You will have the opportunity to visit the house of Juliet (from Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet), the historical Piazza delle Erbe and some of the exclusive shops around the city. Return to Garda Lake and your hotel. Overnight stay.
