Meeting point in front of the hotel. You will take a bus to Svečina where you can find one of the most beautiful photo spots in the surroundings of Maribor – a heart in the middle of the vineyards. There you will be served a glass of wine.
Transfer back to the city centre. Beginning of the city walking tour on Trg generala Maistra (General Maister Square) where the first Gymnasium of Maribor is situated along with the building of the Municipality of Maribor… You will continue your walking tour on Grajski trg (Castle Square) where you will see one of the oldest coffee houses in Maribor and the city castle.
We will move forward to Židovska ulica (Jewish Street) with the oldest synagogue in Central Europe. Your next stop will be the highlight of Maribor – the Old Vine House with the oldest vine in the world. The confirmed age of this “Zametovka” or “Modra Kavcina” vine is over 400 years, which has secured its place in the Guinness World Book of Records as the oldest noble vine in the world still bearing grapes. The Old Vine is a symbol of the rich wine culture in Maribor, Styria, and the entire Slovenia in general. There you will be served a glass of wine.
After the wine tasting you will visit Glavni trg (Main Square) to admire Rotovž - the Town Hall, the plague monument and the old town houses. You will walk through Poštna ulica (Post Street), which is the liveliest street in Maribor. Your next stop will be Slomškov trg (Slomsek Square) - the greenest square in Maribor - with the Cathedral of St John the Baptist, the statue of the bishop Anton Martin Slomšek, the University of Maribor, the Slovenian National Theatre and the building of the Slovenian Central Post Office. You will continue your walking tour by visiting one of the largest (15.000 m2) and oldest classical wine cellars in Europe where you will be served another glass of wine. Transfer back to the hotel.
