3 DAYS TOURS: MARIBOR - ZICE - GORNJA RADGONA - PRLEKIJA - PREKMURJE - PTUJ

DAY 01: MARIBOR – ZICE

Arrival to Maribor before noon. Meet & greet followed by local representative. Maribor is embraced by wine-growing hills on all sides. Its historic town centre is marked by the Austrian influence, and we will admire the lively and colourful squares - Grajski trg (Castle square), Slomskov trg (Slomsek square) and Glavni trg (Main square), and in Lent, the old river port. In the heart of Lent, the oldest vine in the world still grows in front of the Old Vine House. The confirmed age of this “Zametovka” or “Modra Kavcina” vine is over 400 years, which won it a place in the Guinness Book of Records as the oldest noble vine in the world still bearing grapes. The Old Vine is a symbol of the rich wine culture of Maribor, Styria, and all of Slovenia. Wine tasting will be organised (3 samples) in Old Vine House it. It is possible to cover all these attractions on a walking tour of Maribor. The pinnacle of Maribor culture has been the title of the European Capital of Culture in 2012. In the afternoon we will continue your tour to the Sv. Janez Krstnik Valley with its mighty Zice Carthusian Monastery from 1165. It offers a mysterious serenity that allows visitors a retreat from civilization. The monastery of brothers closed in the 18th century, but the monks’ house, dining room, kitchen, and church remained. There we can also visit Gastuz, the oldest hostel in Central Europe, which welcomed travellers who were not allowed to enter the monastery into its safe shelter. Today it is converted to a very authentic restaurant with delicious food. Driving to Maribor. Accomodation in hotel, dinner, overnight.

DAY 02: TASTES OF EAST SLOVENIA (PRLEKIJA, PREKMURJE)

Driving to Prekmurje. Misterious plain in eastern part of Slovenia with fertile soil. First we will visit Estate Kodila in the middle of romantic eastern part of Slovenia. They are famous all around the country for exellent dry meat products (ham, salamis, minced lard, special Prekmurje »prosciutto«….). It will be organised a  guided visit of the estate, tasting different products accompanied by a glass of wine.  Next we will visit Ocean Orchids company, which is engaged in the cultivation of 2 million orchids yearly. They have added wonderful tropical garden to Ocean Orchids offering. In the facility you will be able to see  a number of plants up close that you know from your daily routine: bananas, avocados, vanilla, papaya, mango, pineapple, ilang, taro, ginger, carambola and many others. And … you can buy orchids for really great price. Organised 3-course lunch in restaurant. Spend an afternoon in Gornja Radgona and visit the famous sparkling wine cellar Frangez – house of sparkling wine. They are proud of the awards we have received from internationally acclaimed professionals (in 2013 Ordo Equestris Vini Europae, in 2010 double bronze medal at the International Wine & Spirit Competition London, in 2016 double gold medal at the professional committee at FingerLakes NY international festival). Tasting (3 types of sparkling wine).  After we will drive to The Kocbek Oil Mill which uses its long-lasting tradition, knowledge and experience to offer top quality and unique non-refined cold-pressed oils. All oils are processed with a minimum purity of 98 percent and from carefully selected seeds, cleaned by using a natural process without any additives. The history of the Kocbek Oil Mill dates back to 1929 ... But they do not produce just oils… it will be organised tasting of different oils, dried salami sausage with pumpkin seads, homemade pumpkin seed cake, different chocolates. Return to hotel. Evening free for individual exploration of city center in Maribor.

3. DAY: PTUJ

Breakfast. Finally we'll arrive to Ptuj, the oldest and quite possibly the prettiest small city in Slovenia. Built upon huge wine cellars on the banks of the river Drava. Lying by the river, Ptuj was an important station on the prehistoric Baltic – Mediterranean amber trading route. Historically, it is one of the most important places in the country, and its 2000-year history. A view from the castle above the city is simply breath-taking. Wine tasting in one of the oldest Slovenian wine cellars (several awards: Decanter, AWC Vienna, San Francisco USA). In the wine tasting room there is an old wine press and you wil be served with 4 samples of wine. End of services.
