Prof. Dr. Franci Štampar

Professor Franci Stampar was born on 22. 8. 1960 in Ptuj. After completing his university and Master degree in Agronomy he attained a PhD in 1992 and got the post for assistant professor for Fruit Growing. Since 1993 he was the head of the Chair for Fruit Growing and attained full professorship in 2003. He was vice dean of the Agronomy department and from 2008 to 2010 also dean of Biotechnical faculty. His professional expertise is fruit crops technology. He was head of many national and international projects, head of Horticulture program group and supervised numerous graduate and post-graduate students as well as junior researchers. His scientific work includes several expert studies and close to 180 research articles with IF with more than 3000 citations. He is also active in technology supervision and counselling in large-scale foreign and domestic orchards and openly presents his findings at (inter)national conferences and symposia.

Prof. Dr. Anton Ivančič

Professor Anton Ivančič is professor of genetics, plant breeding and botany of cultivated plants at the Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences of the University of Maribor. After graduation, in 1977, he began as a teacher of plant breeding and maize breeder at the Faculty of Agriculture of the University of Zagreb.  In 1989, he got a position of a plant breeder at the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries in the Solomon Islands. His work was financed by UNDP/FAO/RAS86/034 - Root Crops Development Programme. From 1992 to 1995, he was principal plant breeder at the Ministry for Primary Industries, Department of Agriculture and Livestock, Bubia Research Station, Papua New Guinea. His work in the Pacific was concentrated on the breeding of tropical root and tuber crops against pests and diseases. Since the end of 1995, he has been working at the University of Maribor and, at the same time, actively participating in several root/tuber crops breeding programs (Papua New Guinea, New Caledonia, Vanuatu, Madagascar, Ethiopia, Cuba). Most of his publications are associated with taro (Colocasia esculenta) and other aroid root/tuber crops. The best known is the monography: Ivančič A. and Lebot V. (2000) ‘The genetics and breeding of taro’, CIRAD, Repères, Montpellier, France. In Slovenia, his practical work is concentrated on interspecific hybridisation of elderberries (Sambucus spp.).

Prof. Dr. Vladisalv Ognajanov

Professor Vladislav Ognjanov has been full professor of Genetics and fruit breeding at the University of Novi Sad since 2001. He is involved in education, research and transfer of scientific results in practice. As a mentor he lead over 20 PhD and MSc  studies and more than 60 student diploma works. He has been leading many nationally funded research projects and participating in many collaborative international ones. Area of his research and breeding interests in pome and stone fruit breeding are scions and rootstocks development combining disease resistance with horticultural quality and scion/rootstock relationships. Breeding and research for quality improvement in minor fruit crops and woody fruit species include selection from natural populations, germplasm preservation, development of advanced selections, clonal propagation, chemical composition, nutritional value, antioxidative activity and socio-economic uses.
He was visiting scientist in the field of pome fruit breeding at Horticulture Research International, East Malling, and at US Department of Agriculture, Beltsville, Washington, in tissue culture and genetic engineering. He was participant of nearly all important fruit breeding meetings and congresses held in Europe in last 30 years. At all of them he was invited speaker or presented oral papers.  He published over 200 scientific papers, many of them published in leading international journals. He is coauthor of three books. He is member of International Society for Horticulture Science (ISHS) and European Association for Research on Plant Breeding (EUCARPIA). He was a chairman of EUCARPIA Fruit Breeding Section for four years, elected in Oxford in 1993.

Prof. Dr. Franc Bavec

Professor Franc Bavec is a professor at Faculty of Agriculture and Life Sciences of University Maribor, Slovenia. He cover Field crop production with a special focus into underutilized crops and organic farming. His bibliography contains more than 800 units, 50 scientific and review papers, 15 books and book chapters, many scientific and conference papers, etc. In the scope of underutilized plants he organized 3 international summer schools with 25 partner institutions and participate at many international schools, like in Gent, Wageningen, Ceske Budujevice, Nitra, Vilanova, etc. He lead the projects focused on amaranths, quinoa, camelina, garden poppy, spelt, buckwheat and sweet maize as underutilized crop under temperate growing conditions. Additional to projects, scientific and conference papers, the main options of his activity are described in the book Organic production and use of alternative crops (Taylor and Francis, 2006) and the chapters like underutilized crops and intercrops in crop rotation as factors for increasing biodiversity on fields, organic production of cash cereals and pseudo cereals and Importance of underutilized field crops for increasing functional biodiversity published by Intech.
